Type-C (also known as USB-C) is an electronic device interface standard that offers advantages such as reversible plug orientation, bidirectional transmission, high speed, and compact size, primarily used in mobile terminals like smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Type-C outperforms Apple's Lightning in almost every aspect, is compatible with many existing non-Apple devices, and provides faster data transfer and charging speeds. Currently, the Android platform has largely unified around the Type-C charging interface, leaving only Apple phones equipped with the Lightning interface. Since its release, the Type-C interface has rapidly proliferated in 3C electronics fields such as laptops, Android phones, monitors, and high-end graphics cards, gradually replacing conventional USB interfaces, HDMI, and DP interfaces. In fact, the industry saw the trend of Type-C dominating the market years ago, and the technology has been maturing. An employee from Type-C manufacturer Shenzhen Xianying Technology previously told reporters that on current 3C devices (a collective term for computer, communication, and consumer electronics products), the Type-C interface has become the mainstream charging interface and is expanding into non-3C devices. In 2012, Apple used the brand-new Lightning interface on the iPhone 5, which was the first consumer electronics interface at the time to support reversible plug orientation, and its advancement was truly "unmatched," until nearly two years after the iPhone 5's release, the now more mainstream Type-C interface completed its initial draft and finalization. Relevant Chinese authorities are also actively promoting unified interface standards. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a document stating that it will continue to advance the formulation of national standards for charging interfaces, promoting the integration and unification of charging interfaces and technologies, which is conducive to reducing electronic waste and improving resource utilization efficiency. In fact, Apple products with Type-C interfaces have long been available for purchase in China, such as the fourth-generation iPad Air released by Apple on September 16, 2020. According to Apple's (China) official website, the 11-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro (third, fourth, and fifth generations), iPad mini (sixth generation), and iPad Air (fifth generation) have all adopted the Type-C interface. Additionally, other iPad series products from Apple use the Lightning interface.
